Trigger Point/Knot Therapy
A trigger point (commonly referred to as a knot) is an area of tenderness in a muscle. Each muscle has potential trigger points which can become activated by muscle overuse. Inflammation or trauma. These trigger points can cause pain over the muscle affected or refer pain to other areas of the body. Trigger points are felt when the tissue is palpated by the therapist. Muscles with active trigger points are always weaker than normal and unable to move through their full range of movement.
This technique involves direct pressure applied to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in areas of the body. This kind of therapy is particularly effective in the reduction of:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
- Joint pain
